Abstract: The purpose of participatory action research is to ensure that communication strategies encourage people to change their behavior in a way that is consistent with their culture, livelihood strategies, gender division of labor, etc. both to respect their human rights and to ensure that change actually happens. This is presented in this guideline using the example of avian influenza A/H5N1, however, the principles apply to many diseases.
